• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Darrin -- Practical and informative : Call it "Kids 101"... Sort of like the "what to expect" genre in child development. While I'm a dad, and this book is slightly geared more for moms, I did find practical advice from an experienced mother. A lot of reasonable advise that is obvious after you get it... Like doing stretches and exercises with your kid (pretty easy when they happily mimic everything you do). Teaching manners for example, is always a chore but lead by example as the book repeatedly reiterates... My biggest take away would be summed up as be the person you want you kids to be and they will follow in your footsteps. Stay calm, speak softly, be kind... I do like the small checklists in the book, appeals to my autistic list brain. Also the advice to tell your toddlers 10-15 minutes ahead of something, like leaving to run to the store preps them mentally for the steps of getting ready for the ride/trip... I would suggest this for anyone with little ones—it definitely gives great insight into their thinking and and how they learn and experience the world. I love how it was written; it was a quick and enjoyable read because the author is very in touch with their readers and wrote the book from that point of view. As a new mom, I recommend this book to other new moms. The book is also laid out in a logical flow so it is an easy read packed with nuggets of information!
